Award Ceremony: 6:30 p.m., 24 November 2011, Lecture Theatre 12 This year, teaching and learning on AIS 3123 Theories of Development have been organized in accordance with the idea of Discovery & Innovation. Towards that end, students on the course have researched, designed, created and presented wikis for their group work project. Members of the AIS Academy (all staff and research students) are invited to cast their votes for three awards:
1. Best Content 2. Best Design 3. Best Wiki
Background
At the beginning of the course, each student was given an 'adopted' country in Africa, Asia, Europe or Latin America. For their first written assignment, they produced a two-page report on the level of human development in their adopted country. For the wiki, they were divided into groups of four or five, and asked to explore a topic from a short list of current issues in development, using for purposes of illustration one country from China, Japan, Korea and India, one from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, and the adopted countries of the members of the group. They were directed to wikispaces as an appropriate platform and given a five-minute demonstration of how to create a wiki (it's that easy!). They had one tutorial to help them plan it, and brief written feedback after the class on 3 November, in which they each had five minutes to present the wiki to the whole class. The wiki had to be complete by midnight on 7 November. As this reflects, the groups have followed themes discussed in lectures and seminars, but the design and content of each wiki are their own work. They were encouraged to make use of the multimedia opportunities afforded by the wiki format, through the inclusion of videos, links and visual material.
Voting
The wikis are designated by letters of the alphabet, A to T. Please return your vote from your official CityU email address by midnight on 20 November to paul.cammack@cityu.edu.hk, cc. nlamrad2@student.cityu.edu.hk. The top five wikis in each category will be profiled at the award ceremony, and the winning wiki in each category will receive an award.
